Loosen the screws on back of the switch corresponding to each switch with a screwdriver and slide the bare ends of the wires underneath them one wire per switch. It is one black wire from the power source hot wire and a black wire from the neighboring switch.
Two Way Light Switching Explained
Wiring a 2 gang light switch for 2 separate lights. 3 way light switch wiring 2 wire system this switch arrangement is basically two two way switches on a single face plate. For you to operate both lights individually using a two gang switch you need to install a feed to the second light live neutral and earth this can be done by using the existing link between the two lights that is connected to line and neutral on the first fitting. Pull the other end of each cable through the back of the electrical box for the switch that controls it then strip the end of the cable with a knife and separate the wires. Push these two sets of wires into the back of the gang box. In order to operate two separate lights there should be at least one feed in the box and two traveller circuits one for each light. Connect the three bare copper wires together with another red wire connector.
Always double check the line with a voltage tester to ensure that youve turned off the correct breaker. Strip about 34 inch of insulation from one end of each black wire. Tighten the screws with the screwdriver. Connect the one black wire to the bottom dark screw of the other already wire configured switch. Cut two lengths of black wire and two lengths of bare copper wire about 6 inches long. On each of the two single pole switches install a hot wire pigtail and a ground wire pigtail that will be used to attach the switches to the wires from the feed cable.
