How a three way switch is wired. Three way switches can be wired in a number of different ways depending on where they are located relative to the light fixture in the circuit cable runs. Three way light switches control a light from two locations such as from both ends of a staircase or hallway. At the line switch box the black wire of the two wire line cable gets connected to the copper or black screw terminal on the three way switch.
