And the wd take up expects to clamp around the channel. I can bolt around the frame but it wouldnt be as secure.

Drilling holes in trailer frame. The easiest install would be to drill 2 holes 516 about 6 inches apart in the top of one side of the frame. The additional bolt holes should not affect the integrity of your trailer frame. Be sure you locate the bracket in the correct position on your trailer frame. Drill the first hole using 18 drill bit. Drilling steel or metal is a quick way to dull your drill bits if you do it the wrong way. When building airplanes we drilled holes into the aluminum wing ribs to make them lighter then we used a roller to form a lip none of them failed either.
Step up to 14 or 38 you will want at least 38 or 12 inch bolts depending on load capacity. Wow i must get out more ive never seen any failures of any travel trailers frames none. If i needed a 78 hole in a trailer frame to make my life easier to retract the slide id drill the hole. The holes are far enough apart that you would be fine. Is it ok to drill holes into my v channel frame or should i reinforce box these areas especially the area where the takeups go.
If i re drill these holes in the appropriate position how much am i weakening the trailer frame. I attached a picture that shows how to find the correct spot. Basically all holes need to move 15 2 inches back. Both of these items expect to go onto a boxed channel beam. You can drill with one bit size but it will go faster drilling stepping up in sizes. They expect you to drill holes into the frame channel to bolt a plate onto the frame.
If you are drilling through steel it is easiest to drill in steps.
